3G Mobile Communications Coverage, Strengths & Speeds

This spreadsheet is all about my communications tools. I was curious what the coverage would be for my phone while travelling. Then the idea expanded a little to include my mobile internet coverage and speeds.

So this is what I had and how I did the tests. My mobile phone is an Apple iPhone 3G and is on the Optus network. I got an internet connection with a mobile Next G modem on the Telstra Network. The reception bars shows the signal strength from 0 to 5 with 5 being the strongest signal. For the internet speeds I used the web site www.speedtest.net who also publish an iPhone App. The Optus speeds were recorded from the iPhone and the Telstra speeds were from my MacBook Pro. Theoretically this shouldn't affect the results.

I've also included the GPS location as I'm sure the strengths differ in different areas of towns.
